William Brownfield, Staffordshire, England - antique from around 1880.
This is a rare and atmospheric fairy transferware porcelain plate, printed in blue and - unusually - with gold gilding on the picture. It seems to be hand-painted.
It's from a series that was made decorated with images of elves, gnomes and fairies. Each of the series was titled - this one is "A Christmas Carol" and features hollies and berries. Being in classic blue and white, we think it will display well throughout the year.
It's in very good antique condition, with just a bit of gilding worn from the rim. However, please note that this plate has some blue marks (you can see them in the photos) which we think must have happened in the original firing. Our price takes account of this. It's still a fabulous plate, which is highly decorative.
9.5 inches across.
We will pack very well when sending!
